Cardinal O'Brien criticizes Cameron's treatment of the poor
I’m no defender of the institution he represents — the Catholic Church is, in many ways, as flawed as the government in Westminster, if not more so — however, Cardinal Keith O’Brien has been outspoken in his support of Scotland’s independence and couldn’t possibly be more right about this:
“The poor have suffered tremendously from the financial disasters of recent years and nothing, really, has been done by the very rich people to help them. And I am saying to the Prime Minister, ‘look, don’t just protect your very rich colleagues in the financial industry, consider the moral obligation to help the poor of our country.’”
Say what you will about the “Cardinal of Controversy” — it will probably be warranted — but he makes an extremely important point.
